Herbs
Horticulture Nova Scotia deals only with field grow products. Many herbs are greenhouse grown and not part of our mandate.
Of the field grown herbs, the major commercial crops are parsley and summr savory, although some smaller amounts of others are grown for the farm market trade.
Summer savory is available dried under the brand Farmer John.

 Dried Savory
Parsley

To Store,

Dried savory: Ground herbs tend to lose their flavor over time and should be replaced at least once a year. Date jars or cans when purchased for easy replacement, and store spices in dark, non-absorbent containers in a dry, cool area.

Parsley: Parsley can either be stored or frozen. To store, wash, pat dry and store in plastic bag in refrigerator crisper. Parsley will keep in the frig for about one week. To freeze parsley, wash fresh herbs carefully and pat dry. Then place the herb in airtight freezer bags or containers and freeze. Blanching is not necessary.
